The Lincs Sailing Federation Young Sailors Championship 2006

Saturday 8 July saw Humbermouth Yacht Club at Cleethorpes hosting this important annual event. James Booth, Rachel Conway and Alex Harding eagerly represented Hykeham SC. They were supported by families, friends, LDSA coaches and Sam and Sally who transported the boats to the host club, and brought their vast experience onto play by coaching the entrants on understanding the course, how to go faster, and getting the bar open early!!!!

Three races were held in the sheltered waters just out from the clubhouse, in a breeze that at times provided ‘quite exciting’ sailing. It is an ideal venue for beginners to sample tidal waters as there is a protective sand bar between the course and the channel.

It is impossible to report on exactly what went on out on the water, because after the first lap all Toppers look alike from even a short distance, and with 25 boats taking part, identification was difficult. However when the results came out, Hykeham continued its winning tradition with Rachel taking the Under 13 Trophy in a competitive fleet, Alex finishing 3rd in the largest fleet, the Under 16s, and had there been a prize for the most spectacular capsize, it surely would have gone to James. Amazingly resilient things, Toppers.

After sailing had finished and the beaming youngsters had received their prizes to proud cheers from parents and supporters alike, Humbermouth Yacht Club laid on a fish and chip supper, which was enjoyed by all as much as the rest of the day.

Following the performance of these three young sailors, it seems that the future of sailing is bright.

Well done to all of them. Commodore Sam

September 2006 - Tera-ing about on the Lake !!

We have expanded the Junior fleet with the purchase of two Tera Sport dinghies taking advantage of a generously discounted offer by Morton Boats who also donated two Pro rigs & Mylar sails……..thanks Chaps!

RS have taken the Tera into their range & we can see why as it’s such a versatile boat for the youth market, primarily a single-hander it’s also capable of being sailed two-up.
